Roof Collapses at Former Cedar Brook Café

WestportNow.com Image
UPDATE A large portion of the rear roof of the now closed Cedar Brook Café on Post Road East collapsed today under the weight of accumulated snow. No one was in the building at the time. The nation’s oldest, continually operating gay bar ended a 71-year run at 919 Post Road East last June. (See WestportNow June 25, 2010). New owner Andy Im, operator of next door Swiss Cleaners who purchased the property for $1.6 million in 2009 and who was on the scene, said he has an application pending before the Planning and Zoning Commission to renovate the building. He said insurance had lapsed on the 5,400-square foot building, parts of which dated to 1920, and he was in the process of obtaining a new policy. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo

An ignominious ending for an important part of Westport history. Farewell Cedarbrook.
