Celebrating the Return of the Spirits

WestportNow.com Image
The Stamford-based O-Tatsu Taiko drummers performed at today’s Bon Odori and Star Festival on Westport’s Jesup Green sponsored by the Japan Society of Fairfield County. The festival was postponed from two weeks ago when rain was forecast but did not occur and was cut short today when it did rain. The annual Bon Odori event, also known as Obon, is derived from a traditional Buddhist belief that deceased family members return for a visit once a year in the summer. The festival welcomes the spirits back. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Phyllis Groner for WestportNow.com
