The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has issued a red flag brush fire warning for Westport and area which is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
Strong northwest to west winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts of 25-30 mph will reinforce very dry air in place, it said.
The relative humidity is forecast to fall below 30 percent area wide by 11 a.m. With no rain during the past three days, the ground has rapidly dried, the Weather Service said.
These conditions will aid in the rapid spread of brush fires if any develop.
