Bridgeport Car Crash Hero: ‘Grateful for Support’

Aaron Tucker, the Bridgeport man who helped rescue a crash victim from a smoking car Wednesday on Westport’s Post Road East, said today he has been inundated with job offers and support.

“I am very grateful,” he said. “I have heard from many people who have offered me help. Some also said that they would send me a job application. I am waiting for responses back.”

Tucker, 32, was on a bus en route to a Norwalk job interview when the bus came upon the crash. He jumped off even though the bus driver said he would leave him behind.

Aided by three auto shop employees who rushed from across the street, Tucker entered the smoking car and made a bandage out of his shirt to stem blood flowing from the victim’s head.

The shirt had been given him earlier at his Bridgeport halfway house to wear at the job interview. He was left only with a blood-splattered undershirt.

“I am on my way to the Trumbull Mall to pick up a few job applications,” Tucker said in an email today. “Have to keep putting my right foot forward.”

There was no word on the condition of the victim, who was taken by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital.

Emergency workers said he suffered serious injuries but was stabilized at the scene.
