Betty M. Bradshaw, 95

Betty Millington Bradshaw of Southport, a former Westport school system employee, died July 1 at the Carolton Chronic & Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. She was 95.

She was born in Nottingham, England on Christmas Day 1921 to Thomas and Elsie Mary Blanche Millington.  She was the youngest of three children.

A graduate of Nottingham University, Cambridge University and Yale University, she was mentioned in “Who’s Who in America” for her work in the educational field.

She started her career as a teacher in Yorkshire, England.  Later, she taught U.S. history and English at Greens Farms Academy in Greens Farms. Then she became the librarian at Saugatuck Elementary School in Westport.

At the end of her career, she was in charge of audiovisual services and computer science for the Westport School District.

An avid gardener and sailor, she lived in Westport and later moved to Southport where she resided for more than 40 years.

She is survived by daughters: Susan Stewart and husband, Hutch; Clare Pantello and husband, Thomas; Ann Nigro and husband, Luigi; grandchildren: Heather Visconti and husband, Michael; Robert Thobe and wife, Mandy; Ryan Pantello and wife, Alexis; Alisha Thobe; Stephanie Nigro; Christopher Nigro; and great-grandchildren: Michael and ThomasVisconti; Railey Thobe; and James Pantello.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport .Friends may greet her family on Wednesday, July 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield.
