Barbara Papstein, 79

Barbara Papstein of Eureka, California,  former Westport resident, died May 26 from complications of congestive heart failure. She was 79.

Born on Sept. 9, 1938 in New York City, she was raised in Garden City, Long Island, New York. Her family moved to Westport during her senior year in high school.

She attended the University on Connecticut (U-Conn) at Storrs. During her year at Staples High School, she met Hugo and they married two years later in 1958.

She was a partner in Eureka Broadcasting Company (KINS-KEKA-KWSW-KEJY in Eureka, California and KURY AM-KURY FM in Brookings, Oregon)

Barb enjoyed playing bridge, especially with her sister Wendy as partner; playing golf; doing stained glass; and spending time at the family cabin in Trinity County, which she designed and help build. She also enjoyed cruising both on the rivers and on the ocean (both the Atlantic and Pacific.)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Lillian Adams. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Hugo, sons Brian (wife Angie), Kurt(wife Susan) and Russell. Grandchildren include Winston,Stephen, Kurt Jr., John, Wyatt and Emma. Great-grandchildren are Rylan and Sophia. She is also survived by her youger sister Wendy (husband Len Anderson).

A memorial and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.at Baywood Golf and Country Club, 3600 Buttermilk Lane, Arcata, California.
