Westport resident Anita Pollak Schorr, a Holocaust survivor, died Thursday, April 7. She was 85. Last September, she told the Westport Rotary Club (above): “I beg you to make a commitment to yourself—not to be a bystander of injustice.” She showed a picture of herself when she was 3 (l) as well as the last photograph of her with family members (r). She said the photographs exist today because of a non-Jewish seamstress in her town kept the photographs through the war years. First Selectman Jim Marpe offered his condolences and called Schorr, a Westport resident since 1985, “a courageous woman.” He said she had “made it her mission to tell the story of what happened to her and to the six million other Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis. For the last 20 years that audience included Westport students. She also developed a program to help middle school teachers incorporate the Holocaust into their curriculums.”  Services are scheduled Sunday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Abraham L. Green & Son, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
