Supporters of Westport’s Animal Shelter are seeking Westport’s “top dog.”
The group, Westport Animal Shelter Advocates (WASA), has announced a photo and essay contest to find the top canine in town as part of a fund-raiser for Westport’s municipal animal shelter.
The Representative Town Meeting (RTM) on Tuesday will consider a $95,000 appropriation request approved by the Board of Finance last month to renovate the shelter, adjacent to Westport’s sewage treatment plant.
The funds raised by WASA will supplement the town spending.
“One hundred percent of the entry fee will be used towards the renovation of Westport Animal Control on Elaine Road, the no-kill shelter for lost and abandoned dogs of Westport,” the group said in a news release.
The group said entrants should describe in an essay of 100 words or less “why their dog is Westport’s Top Dog,”submit a photo of the pooch, and enclose a $20 entry fee. Entries should be sent to WASA, 606 Post Road East Suite 610, Westport, CT 06880.
The group asks entrants to include your name, address, phone number, name and age of your dog. Deadline for submission is Sept. 30.
“An esteemed panel of judges from the community will meet in October to decide upon Westport’s Top Dog,” the group said.
“The top 12 winners will be featured in WASA’s fund-raising calendar, and the top three dogs will receive special acknowledgement at WASA’s Top Dog event in October. The winner, Westport’s Top Dog, will be featured in a photo to hang in Westport Town Hall.
