Andrew (“Andy”) Lozyniak, a longtime resident of Westport, died Aug. 19. He was 83.
Born in New York City in 1931 to Stephan and Helen Lozyniak, he was a 1949 graduate of Staples High School and received a degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1953.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1956. He joined Consolidated Diesel Corporation following his service in the Air Force and later joined Dynamics Corporation of America (DCA).
He became president, CEO and chairman of the board of DCA and remained in that role until his retirement in 1998. He was a gardener and caretaker of the Lozyniak Botanical Park in Westport and served on numerous boards of both public and private corporations and several Fairfield County civic organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; daughters, Cynthia (Richard) LoCascio of Fairfield, Wendy Lozyniak and her longtime companion, Albert of South Chittenden, Vt.; sons, Andrew, (Christine) Lozyniak of Easton and Richard (Tamye) Lozyniak of Rochester, N.Y.; three grandsons; sisters, Lillian Nossek of Westport and Joan (Eddie) Mercier of New Britain; sister-in-law, Ina Lozyniak of Westport; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Steven of Westport; and daughter Cathy Lozyniak Alexander.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road North, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Fairfield County.
