Following college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in Okinawa, Japan.  He had a successful career as personnel director with AT&T, formerly Western Electric Co.

A friendly, kind gentleman, he will be remembered for his love and commitment to his family, friends, faith, the New York Rangers and most of all his sailing days on his boat “Janal.”

He was predeceased last May by his wife Jane, of 59 years, as well as by his sister, Marie Birmingham, and three brothers, Paul, Carl (Reverend O.Carm) and Joe.

He is survived by his four children, Sharon, Albert Jr. (Donna Dillulio), Susan (Maya Davidson) and Gary, grandchildren Jessica (Nate Bartch) Emily, Katie and Robbie, and great-grandson Colton, as well as a sister, Anne Kirchoff and several nieces nephews and in-laws.

A special thanks to his niece Carla for all of her loving guidance and assistance and Anne Marie for her loving care to both Al and Jane.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, from 4-6 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, Norwalk. Burial with military services will follow at St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Westport Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Ave. Westport, CT 06880 or St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk, CT 06850. For info or online guestbook, please go to: http://www.Magnerfuneralhome.com.
