UPDATE The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Westport and area from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
It also said a high wind warning is in effect from 6 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Friday.
Forecasters predicted winds northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph today and up to 60 mph tonight.
The Weather Service said possible damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph or gusts of 46 to 57 mph are expected or occurring. Winds thisstrong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur.
