No One Injured in Harvest Commons Condo Fire

Fire broke out in the basement of a unit at Westport’s Harrvest Commons condominium complex about 4 a.m.today, and it took firefighters almost two hours to get it under control. No one was injured in the blaze at No. 506. Firefighters, including units from Fairfield, had trouble accessing the blaze in the basement and crawl space and at one point had to evacuate the building because of the danger of collapse, according to Deputy Chief Robert Kepchar. In a posting on her Facebook page, Bleiweis said participants in a workshop are from Russia, Belarus, Egypt, Canada, and Macedonia. An overflow crowd attended a memorial service today at Westport’s Green’s Farms Congregational Church for longtime Westport resident Roy Dickinson who died Feb. 14 at age 85. On the Move

It was moving day today for a mural by Westport artist and illustrator Robert L. Lambdin (1886 - 1981) depicting old Westport and since 1970 installed on the wall of the former Westport Bank & Trust Co. office at 50 Charles St. TD Bank, which most recently occupied the premises, has sold the building and on Wednesday, the Board of Selectmen formally approved acceptance of the gift from the bank valued at $25,000. The mural, which needs some restoration, will eventually find a new home in the Westport Town Hall lobby.
