The clues were there – Westport’s rising home sales defying the national trend, school enrollment up, Grand List rising. Now the U.S. Census Bureau has confirmed it – Westport is among the fastest growing towns in Connecticut.
The latest U.S. Census Bureau figures put Westport’s estimated 2013 population at 27,308 up 917 from 26,391 in 2010. The latest population estimate is just shy of the town’s highest population of 27,318 in 1970 when it grew 30.4 percent from 20,955 in 1960, according to the Census Bureau.
The 3.47 percent jump from 2010 to 2013 is the highest among southwest Connecticut’s Gold Coast towns and second only to Bethel and Shelton in Fairfield County.
Fairfield County was the fastest growing county in the state, according to the latest figures.
