UPDATE A Westport Department of Public Works dump truck ran into the Metro-North Railroad Bridge over Saugatuck Avenue today, shutting down the busy roadway.
The driver of the truck suffered no apparent injuries but was shaken up and transported to Norwalk Hospital to be checked out, according to officials at the scene.
The bed of the truck was in the raised position when it struck the bridge as it was traveling northbound on the busy roadway, which is also state route 136. There was no immediate explanation why the bed was in the upright position.
The cab of the truck ended up in the air after the crash.
