WestportNow Teardown of the Day: 21 Silver Brook Road

WestportNow.com Image
An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 21 Silver Brook Road, off Weston Road, is in process. Built in 1949, the one-story ranch has 2,966-square feet, is situated on a 1.09-acre property and changed ownership for $1,134,000 in September 2015. Because the house was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

To Dramatize Message, Drunk Driving Victim Turns Playwright

By James Lomuscio

Westporter Mike Krysiuk could be describing an event in real time when he recounts being in a sportscar doing 100 mph and driven by his friend drunk at the wheel.

Mike Krysiuk: in coma seven weeks. Contributed photo

“My friend and I were coming out from New York, coming down Route 123 in New Canaan,” he recalled about the incident 42 years ago. “We went across the line to buy some beer in Vista, N.Y.”

It was Sunday, Jan. 31, 1974, a time when Connecticut Blue Laws prohibited alcohol sales on Sunday. Kyrsiuk says both he and his friend Ted Reynolds were drunk.

“It was a two-seater Triumph GT6,” Krysiuk said. “He tried to downshift. The gears locked, the brakes locked, and we went skidding and heading head for a pile of dirt and a big black shadow next to the pile of dirt.

“I could not be more grateful for the love and support the Town of Westport and all of Fairfield County and beyond has given to us since we opened nearly a year ago,” said Lewis in the announcement.

“While we have big plans for this additional space, our number one priority is to continue to offer the same comfortable atmosphere, delicious cuisine and warm hospitality that we are proud to be known for.”

‘It Looks Wimpy to Pick on the Little Guy’

WestportNow.com Image
Westporter Michael Gordon, chair of the Board of Education, was on the CNBC business cable channel today offering advice to CEOs on the hot seat at congressional hearings in recent days. They include John Stumpf, chairman and CEO of Wells Fargo, involved in a fake accounts scandal, and Heather Bresch, CEO of Mylan, maker of EpiPens, whose recent price increases have stirred controversy. “It looks wimpy to pick on the little guy,” said Gordon, whose firm Group Gordon offers public relations strategic services to some of the nation’s top firms. “Heads must roll,” he said. “You have to show real contrition and follow up with action ... Take responsibility and stop shifting blame.” He said firms in the congressional spotlight should offer up an ethics policy as part of their response. Scenic Road Signs Unveiled

WestportNow.com Image
A state scenic road sign, recently approved by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT), was officially unveiled today at a ceremony at the corner of Riverside Avenue and Bridge Street. It is one of two signs designating a 1.8-mile scenic route in Westport. The other is at the end of the route on Compo Road South near the entrance to the Baron’s South property. Colleen Kissane, a scenic road advisor to CDOT said, the 1.8 mile scenic route “is significant in that there are 48 historic resources along the brief route.” The designation was sought by preservationists who want to see the William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge (background) preserved rather than replaced. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
