Residents Learn About Federal Aid to Elevate Homes

WestportNow.com Image
More than 60 persons whose homes have been damaged by recent flooding attended a Town Hall meeting tonight to learn details of federal government aid to elevate their homes.  Deputy State Hazard Mitigation Officer Gemma Fabris from Connecticut’s Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and Westport Fire Chief Andy Kingsbury explained the process and answered questions for more than two hours. Fabris said the federal assistance application process could take six months or more and would reimburse homeowners for 75 percent of the elevation expense, which could be between $150,000 and $250,000. She stressed that the monies would only be available for what is minimally required to elevate and not for renovations or repairs. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
