Just as Metro-North was about to institute a new, more realistic timetable on its first weekday commute Monday, it told New Haven Line commuters tonight, in effect, to forget it.
The railroad said a fire on Saturday at its Cos Cob switching house means Metro-North anticipates 5-10 minute delays on the New Haven Line until further notice.
The long anticipated new schedule with what the railroad said was more realistic times that would make service much more reliable went into effect on Sunday.
Metro-North said because of Saturday’s fire, the railroad is only able to use two of four tracks in the peak direction through a nine-mile stretch. The fire has also eliminated the ability of the railroad to operate trains around problems if any arise in this area, it said.
