The 1885-built Kemper-Gunn House will be relocated from Westport’s Church Lane to the Baldwin parking lot on Elm Street in August, Selectman Helen Garten, chair of the newly appointed Kemper-Gunn Advisory Group, said today.
At the inaugural meeting of the group, appointed last week by First Selectman Jim Marpe, who also attended today’s meeting, Garten also said the first draft of the lease is in progress and should be available next week.
Also attending the meeting was Public Works Director Steve Edwards who said the town will proceed with widening Elm Street by 4 feet. He said the street’s current width is 24 feet at Elm and Main but narrows to 21 feet where the house will be relocated.
“We’re not going to make Elm Street a highway,” he said.
