UPDATE Westport residents of 35 Bridge St. senior housing evacuated today because of a gas leak, according to fire officials.
The leak was traced to an outside meter and shut down, they said. Emergency responders requested a bus to keep the evacuees warm but later canceled the request.
Meter readings showed no gas inside the building but still many residents remained outside for a while in 10-degree weather, the officials said.
The incident was reported at about 1:30 p.m. By 1:45 p.m., many residents were going back inside, according to reports from the scene.
