The program is free and open to the public.

According to theater officials, Eason will discuss her play with David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director.

Route 136 Resurfacing Set for October

Motorists will encounter new traffic patterns next month as Westport’s Route 136 from the Post Road East-Compo Road South intersection all the way to the William F. Cribari Bridge to Charles Street is scheduled for resurfacing.

Public Works Director Stephen Edwards said the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) project is expected to take one week from Wednesday, Oct. 18, through Wednesday, Oct. 25.

He added that CDOT officials told during a preconstruction meeting held Wednesday that the intention is to commence work at 8 p.m. and to work continuously until 5 a.m. Edwards said traffic patterns will be set up each night beginning at 7:30.

The 2.14-mile section of road handles an average daily traffic (ADT) count of 8,800 vehicles, Edwards said.

GOP, Dems Both Lack Solution to CT’s Cycle of Budget Deficits

By Keith M. Phaneuf

www.ctmirror.org

Despite their many disagreements over how the next state budget should look, Republican and Democratic legislators have one key element in common.

Neither of their respective plans would spare Connecticut from grappling with another massive budget deficit two years from now.

The legislature’s nonpartisan Office of Fiscal Analysis says the two-year budget crafted by Republican legislators and passed in the House and Senate late last week would balance the state’s books this fiscal year and next — wiping out a $3.5 billion deficit in the process.

But that same plan, unless adjusted, would run $3.31 billion in the red between 2019 and 2021.

Police-Youth Club Seeks Students Members

Eighth and ninth grade students are invited to join Westport Police-Youth Club now in its second year, Westport Police Department and Westport Youth Services officials announced today.

Established last fall to encourage a better understanding between police and youths, the program is funded through the state Office of Policy and Management and its Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee.

According to local officials, club activities include monthly meetings, team building, and community service opportunities for youth and Westport police officers to work side by side.

“By bringing students and police together in a non-enforcement capacity for meaningful discussion, the group hopes to continue building off the success of the first year,” the announcement says. “Together we can further strengthen a healthy community with a foundation of mutual respect.”
