Westport police used a Taser gun on a Staples High School senior who refused to comply when caught trying to break into a Hyatt Lane home early Saturday morning, police said today.
It was the first use by Westport police of a Taser device since last summer and only the fourth time a Taser has been used by Westport police to subdue a suspect since the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) approved their purchase in a controversial vote in 2008.
Roscoe Brown, 18, of 83 Sturges Highway was charged with attempted burglary, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace and was released after posting a $5,000 bond, Capt. Vincent Penna said. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on June 3.
According to police, officers responded to the residence after the homeowner had heard someone trying to open doors.
