Westport firefighters at work today as flames damaged an attic and roof at 53 Washington Ave. The occupants reported smelling smoke and checking the interior of the house, said Assistant Chief Biill Dingee. But smoke detectors did not activate as the fire and smoke were confined to the roof and unfinished attic areas where there were no detectors, he said. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo
