First Selectman Jim Marpe and Rory Tagert, who has leased the Inn at Longshore, a the town-owned facility, for more than 30 years, announced today they have signed a letter of intent to identify and secure a new restaurant to replace Splash, which closed last October after 19 years. “It is imperative that a first class restaurant for all Westporters is in operation for the spring and summer 2015 seasons,” Marpe said in a statement. “The restaurant must also include services for golfers.”

Marpe noted that a long-term sublease with a restaurant operator would be subject to the town’s terms, conditions, and approval.

The new operator will have demonstrated experience in running comparable restaurant concepts and have the financial resources to invest in the premises, an announcement said.

Any lease amendment will be subject to review and approval by the Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen. Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman,Charlie Haberstroh, has been leading the negotiations on behalf of the town, the announcement said.

“Rory Tagert and the Town of Westport have had a 30-plus year relationship as the Inn at Longshore’s tenant and landlord,” Marpe said. “We are confident that working together, we will select the best restaurant tenant for that location as quickly as possible.”

Additionally, the town and Tagert will be formulating a capital plan, the objectives of which are to address long-term issues and material improvements to the Inn at Longshore facilities, the announcement said.
