The Staples High School Chamber Orchestra and its singing group The Orphenians have scheduled a benefit concert for Newtown on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the school.

The performance will be the Schubert “Mass in G,” and all of the donations collected will go to the My Sandy Hook Family Fund, according to Kevin Coughlin, orchestra member and Staples senior.

“In the wake of Newtown, we’ve decided to turn this concert into a benefit concert for the families who were affected by this recent tragedy,” said Coughlin.

“The concert will feature excellent music and musicians, all donations will go to a worthy cause, and it is also a good opportunity for younger musicians to get a taste of what music is like on the high school level,” he added.
