Staples Takes FCIAC Crown, Beating Greenwich 48-30
The Staples football Wreckers beat rival Greenwiich 48-30 today at Greenwich to win the FCIAC championship for the second successive year.
The Wreckers finished with a 9-0 record on the season and now prepare for the state LL tournament.
Staples senior Joey Zelkowitz was named most valuable player of the game, setting a 317-yard rushing record. He scored three touchdowns on 20 carries while adding an interception.
The opening round of the class LL tournament will take place Tuesday night at Staples with the No. 1 seed Wreckers meeting No. 8 West Haven.
