Second Widespread Power Outage Hits Westport
UPDATE Eight hours after a power outage blacked out Westport’s downtown and areas west to Norwalk, a second power outage tonight plunged much of Post Road East into darkness for almost an hour.
Connecticut Light and Power Company said at 11:15 p.m. that 1,029 customers were in the dark. By shortly after midnight, the utility said all customers had power back.
A utility official said a tree falling at the Greens Farms substation caused tonight’s blackout which extended along Post Road East from the Sherwood Island Connector to Bulkley Avenue North near the Fairfield line and north to Sturges Highway. Winds tonight gusted to 24 mph.
A CL&P official attributed the earlier outage to “equipment failure” at a Westport substation at Main Street and Canal Street.
