When the Christmas season ends, and tree needles begin to dry, Westporters will not have to go any farther than the end of their driveways to dispose of their trees thanks to Boy Scout Troop 39.
Assistant Scout Master Richard Ruggiano said today that his troop will hold its third annual Christmas tree pick up on Saturday, Jan. 12.
“Families looking for help in having their trees removed and recycled simply reserve a spot online and take their tree down to the end of their driveway the night before,” said Ruggiano. “Once picked up, the trees will be recycled as mulch.”
He said the requested donation is $16 per tree, and that funds collected will go toward Boy Scout Troop 39’s “character-building activities, such as food drives, community service projects, and high adventure backpacking trips.”
Ruggiano said reservations for pick ups can be made at www.troop39scouts.com/treepickup.htm. He said those interested should sign up, tape their donations in cash or check made out to Boy Scout Troop 39 to their front doors and have and have their trees at the end of their driveways no later than 6:30 a.m. Jan. 12.
“Or, take your tree down the night before, and then sleep in while the scouts collect your tree,” Ruggiano said. “Reservations are limited so go online and sign up today.”
