Renee Bacal Keane, a longtime Westport resident who retired to Florida, died June 21 in Fairfax, Va. The cause of death was a brain injury resulting from a fall. She was 76.
A popular real estate agent in Westport for more than a decade, she later worked for 14 years as national meeting coordinator for The Common Fund, a service organization that assisted almost 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide in the management of their endowments.
She and her husband George retired and moved to University Park Florida in 1997, but continued to spend summers in Connecticut with their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband George Keane of Trumbull, her brother Joe Bacal (Anne) of Manhattan, her children Jeffrey Shwartz (Nancy) of Newtown, Robbin Golas (Gary) of Trumbull, and Joshua Kane (Abby) of Manhattan, as well as her three step-children Brian Keane of Monroe, Geoffrey Keane of Stratford and Sheila Keane (Valerie) of Lismore Australia. She and George together have eight grandchildren: Chris, Tristan (Grace), Amelia, Wylder, Dylan, Alan, Elizabeth, and Zachariah. She was predeceased by her grandson, Maximillian Kane.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at the Westport Unitarian Universalist church, 10 Lyons Plains Road.
