Nancy Huppi, a former Westport resident, died Sept. 23 in Waltham, Mass. after a prolonged illness.

The daughter of David and Mary (Grisky) Messinger, she grew up in Pelham, N.Y. and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School.

She then graduated at the top of her class from Katherine Gibbs School in Manhattan. She lived for a time with other young single ladies at the YWCA, where she met several girls who became lifelong close friends.

While working in Manhattan as an executive secretary, she met and fell in love with Gordon Huppi of Larchmont, N.Y. They married in 1952 and moved to Westport in 1959, where they lived for more than 20 years, and raised their three daughters.

During their years in Westport, the couple developed many close and lifelong friendships. She worked part-time at Trendex, Inc. and many other local businesses as a secretary.

In 1988, the Huppis retired to the Cape, where they built their home in Brewster in the Salt Works Circle neighborhood.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Huppi of Penacook, N.H., Karen Huppi Vail of Orleans, Mass., Janet Huppi of Stratford, and her granddaughter, Caitlin Vail of Jamaica Plain, Mass.
