A memorial service will be held for Austin James Hood on Friday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at Longshore Country Club in Westport.
The 2010 Staples High School graduate, most recently a student at Loyola University in New Orleans, died in New Orleans on Oct. 26. He was 20.
The family issued the following announcement: “Friends of Austin, and of the Hood family, are warmly invited to share this terribly sad, but special, occasion with us. There will be a remembrance service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., followed by a reception with food and drinks from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., when we hope everyone who knew Austin will share their memories of him.
“Austin died peacefully in New Orleans on October 26th. He was 20 years old. Austin was an extraordinary young man with a loving heart and a hopeful spirit.
“He was a brilliant musician and had a sense of humor and sharp wit that could bring people to their knees. Austin also had uncanny insight into human behavior, surely derived from his own journey.
“Austin’s family has chosen to commit their time and resources to supporting organizations that help young adults deal with the challenges they face growing up in this world.
“One such organization is the Teen Awareness Group at Staples High School, which sponsors many excellent programs throughout the school year.
“Those wishing to make a donation can send a check to: The Austin Hood Foundation, P.O. Box 806, Westport, CT 06881.
“Austin is survived by his Dad (Jim), Step-Mom (Julia), brother (Sebastian) and sisters (Brittany and Karalyn).
“Our collective hearts are broken. We cannot express our profound sadness and emptiness caused by Austin’s passing. Please join us in saying goodbye to our beloved son and brother.”
