John H. Day of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Fairfield and an industrial arts teacher in Westport and Fairfield, died at home on Jan. 28. He was 87.
The husband of Evelyn (Nicholson) for 67 years, he was born in Lincoln, Maine on April 8, 1925. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B17.
He graduated from Oswego State Teacher’s College in 1949 and taught industrial arts in Fairfield and Westport for 34 years. He was also well-known for his wood carving and artwork.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his four children and their spouses, Crystal Babin (Angelo Vicari) of Huntington, Conn., Claudia (John Dapp) of Newtown, Scott (Christine) of Trumbull, and Cindy (Jack Baer) of Warren, Ohio and eight grandchildren.
