Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe tonight used a Board of Finance meeting to publicly acknowledge and congratulate Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury on his nomination for Emergency Manager of the Year from the Northeast States Emergency Consortium. “We know Andy Kingsbury best as the fire chief but he is also the head of Westport’s emergency management team as well,” said Marpe. Marpe cited Kingsbury’s perseverance earlier this year in getting a state panel overseeing allocation of federal hazard mitigation funds to reverse its decision and allocate some funds to shoreline homeowners seeking to raise their homes above floodwaters. In turn, Kingsbury thanked Deputy Chief Robert Kepchar and Assistant Chief Robert Yost for handling many of his day-to-day duties while he concentrated on the funding issues.
