Hearing Tonight on Utility Storm Sandy Response

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) holds a public hearing in Westport today on the response by utility companies to Storm Sandy.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting in the Town Hall auditorium is one of several the agency is holding around the state. It will be broadcast live on the town’s cable channel and streamed on its website.

Today’s hearing on Storm Sandy comes five months after PURA issued a final decision on two 2011 storms in which it found that the state’s largest electric distribution company, Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P), was “deficient and inadequate” in several areas of its preparations and response.

The agency concluded that because the response to the storm by CL&P was deficient, an appropriate reduction of its allowed return on equity will be considered in its next ratemaking proceeding as a penalty for poor management performance and to provide incentives for improvement.
