He was husband of the late Elaine Y. Suan. Born on June 4, 1937 in Shanghai, China, he was the son of the late Pao Lien Suan and Hing Wan Chao. He has been a resident of Westport since 1971. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He received a master’s degree in industrial administration from Yale University in 1966.

He joined the Mobil Oil Corp. in 1966, and his first international assignment was to Singapore in 1967. He held management positions in Germany, Kenya, London and Fairfax prior to his retirement in 1987.

In addition to a passion for travel, he was an avid golfer and benefactor of the Yale golf course. He is the only male member of the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, his family said.

He is survived by his two sons, Eric P. Suan and his wife Pamela of Baltimore, Md., Alan L. Suan and his wife Beth of Clifton, Va.; one sister, Mary Chang of Henderson, Nev.; three brothers, Robert and his wife Florence of Newport Beach, Calif., Robin and his wife Jean of Tustin, Calif., and four grandchildren, Preston, Ashley, Brady and Emily. He was pre-deceased by, a brother, Jack.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, on Friday, Dec. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. Internment services will be private.
