Robert W. Halapin, 78

Robert W. Halapin of Trumbull, a four-decade employee of the Westport school system, died May 5 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was 78.

He was born in Bridgeport to the late Frank and Rose Halapin and was a longtime Trumbull resident.

For more than 40 years, he was an educator for the Westport Public Schools and also taught graduate classes at Fairfield University and the University of Bridgeport.

During his teaching career, he founded Halapin Learning Systems to pursue a lifelong passion to create his own reading program.

He and his wife, Rosemarie, were very involved with Family Life for the Diocese of Bridgeport for more than 26 years and served as directors for several years. He was a longtime member of the Killian Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Walko Halapin of Trumbull; four children, Thomas Halapin of Trumbull, Lyn Barry and her husband Jeff of Naugatuck, Judith Bump and her husband, John of Stratford and Robert Halapin and his wife, Janet of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Jack Halapin of Southbury; nine grandchildren Krista, Kaitlyn, Stefani and Alyssa Barry, Heather and Matthew Halapin, Amanda, Jenna and Emily Bump and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, May 9 at 9 a.m. directly at St. Theresa Church 5301 Main St. Trumbull. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Thursday, May 8 from 4 -8 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mercy Learning Center (http://www.mercylearningcenter.org).

Bob was a great guy, and wonderful teacher, and a man dedicated to the profession.  May his teachings be remembered.
