A Westport property developer has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a mortgage fraud topping $3.5 million, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

William Trudeau Jr. 50, of Norwalk was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven to 188 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, a news release said. He was found guilty last October of conspiracy and wire fraud. (See WestportNow Oct. 9, 2012)

In addition, Trudeau’s wife, Heather Bliss, 37, was sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for her role in the scheme.  She was also ordered to pay a fine of $12,500.

Bliss pleaded guilty in 2010 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three others have pleaded guilty to participating in the scheme. Authorities said Trudeau and his co-conspirators submitted false mortgage loan applications to fraudulently obtain more than $4 million in loans to purchase six properties in Westport and Newtown.
