Once again, Westport’s police and firefighters dominated the list of the town’s top 50 wage earners (excluding Board of Education employees—see separate story) for 2012, with overtime and related work more than doubling the salary for the cop in the No. 1 spot.

In first place on the list released Tuesday, Police Field Training Officer Anthony Prezioso earned $173,462.88, way over his base salary of $76,636 due to overtime as well as outside work paid by the town but charged to outside vendors.

Officer Howard Simpson, another police field training officer, came in second with $167,752.84, more than double his $78,527 annual base salary.

The only non-first responder in the top 10 earners was Gary Conrad, the town’s finance director, who came in fifth with total earnings of $148,145.57, including $473 entitled pay over his salary of $147,672.57.

Police Chief Dale Call ranked seventh with $143,171.21, including $12,033.50 from other entitled pay over his base of $131,936.

Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury came in ninth with $143,089.92, including entitled payments of $13,030.77 over a base salary of $130,059.15

Deputy Police Chief Foti Koskinas ranked as the 10th top wage earner for municipal employees with a total income of $141,615.01, including more than $15,000 in entitled payments over his $125,002.02 base salary.

Once again, First Selectman Gordon Joseloff did not make the top 10, nor the top 50, since his annual salary remains slightly above $100,000.

The 50th slot went to Fire Lt. Brian Meadows with a total salary of $121,447.08, substantially higher than his base $82,653.56 salary. See full list here.

Forgive me for asking but wouldn’t it be more economical for the town to hire one, two or a few more employees than paying all of this overtime?
