The town’s 36-member legislative body, the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy.
Hadley Rose, RTM Moderator, said the vacant seat in District 4 was caused by the resignation of two-term member George Underhill, the town’s former tax collector. (See WestportNow Jan. 28, 2013)
“I want to thank RTM member George W. Underhill for his service to the Town of Westport,” Rose said today in a letter sent to news media.
“I regret accepting his resignation and wish him well as he relocates to Guilford, CT. As a member of the town’s legislative body, he has carefully considered and voted on town ordinances and budget appropriations.”
Rose said in accordance with the Town Charter, the vacancy must be filled by a registered voter residing in District 4.
No party affiliation is required since Westport’s RTM is nonpartisan. The term expires in November 2013.
Rose said any questions can be directed to him or to the remaining district members, Jonathan Cunitz, Jeffrey Wieser, and David Floyd.
Contact information and a district boundary map are available on the town’s website at http://www.westportct.gov/index.aspx?page=519.
