Middle East expert Michael Doran told a Westport Pubic Library audience tonight that the Obama administration should take on a more active leadership role in Syria. Not doing so, he said, risks the country becoming a failed state where extremism and lawlessness rule. Doran is a senior fellow in the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution where he specializes in Middle East security issues. He has held several academic positions and has served as a deputy assistant secretary of defense and a senior director at the National Security Council.
