Staples Former Swim Coach Arrested Again

The former swim coach at Staples High School, charged with repeatedly raping two young Fairfield girls, was arrested Thursday after police said he was spotted outside a playground where the victims play, the Connecticut Post reported. Image

Jeffrey Schare, 43, was charged with violating a protective order and a restraining order. He was later released after posting $25,000 real estate bond, the report said.

Schare was arraigned Jan. 22 in Superior Court on sexual assault charges (See WestportNow Jan. 22, 2013) and police said the same day he was spotted by the parents of the victims outside the Fairfield Woods Library, a short distance from the playground where the two victims go to play after school. Schare claimed he had been at the library to return a book, police said, according to the newspaper.

Schare, of Fairfield, taught math and coached the boys swim and dive team for seven years until he left in November. He has been free on $150,000 bond.

It is fascinating to me that Staples High School has not addressed the parents and/or student body regarding Mr. Schare and his role as a math teacher/coach. As the mother of a daughter, who had Mr. Schare as her math teacher, I am troubled that I was not contacted about this incident and had to learn about it through the media. John Dodig could have handled this situation so much better than he did.

Maybe Kroll can help out here too.  Manage their reputational risk mitigation here, and then also, do their employee due diligence background checks…maybe they already do.
