As the San Francisco 49rs ready to face off against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, Feb. 3 in Super Bowl 47, another annual tradition will get underway at the Westport Center for Senior Activities—the seventh annual Super Bowl Tailgate Party.
Scheduled pre-game from 1:15 to 4 p.m. (ceremonies begin at 2 p.m. ) and open to all ages, the event offers free food and beverages featuring Oscar’s hot dogs, fixings, chips, dips and sodas, according to senior center officials.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success and lots of fun,” said Jack Klinge, president of the Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities. “We expect this year to be even better.”
He said that highlighting the party will be the annual Service to Seniors Award presented this year to Bill Meyer.
“Meyer is known throughout the community as a tireless and honored volunteer,” Klinge said.
He said Meyer’s service to seniors includes membership on the boards of both the Westport Chapter of AARP and Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities.
Meyer has also served as president of the Y’s Men and in 2004 received the Service to Older Adults award. He is also an eight- term member of the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), currently serving on the education and health and human services committees.
Klinge noted an added attraction to this year’s tailgate party will be an appearance by the Magic Genie “who will perform magic tricks that he learned from his travels around the world.”
Also present will be the Staples High School football team, plus Staples and PAL cheerleaders.
“The Super Bowl Tailgate party offers the whole town a chance to visit, or to revisit this amazing facility,” Klinge said.
The Center for Senior Activities is located at 21 Imperial Ave. For more information, call 203-341-5099.
