Washington View: Staples Students Briefed on Government
![]()
Congressman Jim Himes today met with juniors and seniors at Staples High School in Advanced Placement government courses. Joe Jelen, one of three AP government teachers in attendance with Suzanne Kammerman and John Miller, said Himes was invited to help students better understand what congressmen do on a day-to-day basis. During the one-hour session, the students asked Himes questions that included the fiscal cliff, filibustering, the role of lobbying, gun control, congressional term limits, and how much time Himes divides between Connecticut and Washington.
