Wilton Man Arrested for Causing Town Hall Disturbance
Westport police charged a 55-year-old Wilton man in connection with a disturbance Friday at Westport Town Hall.
A police report today said Dale Betts was charged with creating a public disturbance and criminal trespass.
“Betts was taken into custody after he walked into Westport Town Hall and created a disturbance in one of the offices,” the report said.
Town Hall workers said Betts entered the Board of Education offices carrying a wooden musical instrument, a flute or recorder, that was first believed to be a baseball bat and was yelling and screaming.
By the time police arrived, he was outside in the back parking lot, they said.
Police said he had been previously warned not to have further contact with anyone at Town Hall or enter the premises following an incident there in September.
He was released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 14.
