Winning First Night Button Design Chosen
The public, voting on the Internet, has chosen the winning design for this year’s First Night Westport/Weston button. It is Westport graphic designer Miggs Burrough’s homage to toymakers Melissa & Doug, the button sponsors.

The design portrays a child’s painting of the new year 2013 in various drippy paint colors.
The buttons, which are the ticket admission for all events, will go on sale for an early bird special price of $10 on Thursday during the Ring in the Season celebration at Christ and Holy Trinity Church, Church Lane, following the town Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of Westport Town Hall at 5 p.m. After Dec. 15, the ticket button is $15.
Other locations to purchase tickets beginning Dec. 1 are the Westport Public Library, Westport Weston Family Y, Trader Joe’s, Oscar’s Deli, Weston Hardware and TD Bank, Main Street, Westport.
First Night Westport/Weston, a drug- and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration for the whole family, features a variety of entertainment from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at locations in downtown Westport.
Organizers are also seeking contributions which can be made out to “First Night Westport/Weston” and sent to First Night Westport/Weston, P.O. Box 745, Westport, CT 06881. Contributors can specify if they would like some or all of their contribution earmarked for the Button Giveaway Program in which buttons are purchased for families who cannot afford to attend the event.
