A school bus driver who talked about his sex life and threatened students during Coleytown Middle School (CMS) morning and afternoon runs Oct. 18, causing children to flee the bus, and later parent outrage against the school administration, turned himself in to police on Tuesday.
Daniel Florio, 44, of Norwalk, faces threatening, risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace charges. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 29.
The arrest warrant was predicated on numerous complaints from middle school parents and children “reporting offensive and irrational behavior from their school bus driver ... allegedly making sexual comments and threatening the riders,” the police report states.
According to one parent, Florio used profanity, talked about his sex life and told 11- to 13-year-old students aboard Bus 16 heading to CMS Thursday morning, Oct. 18, that they should be having sex, too.
“This is an atrocity,“said Jarrett Liotta, whose daughter was on the bus, said following the incident.
Liotta was one of several parents critical of how the school administration handled the matter who spoke before the Board of Education Oct. 22, the opening day of National School Bus Safety Week.
“What followed was a nightmare for these kids,” Liotta told the school board, noting, as did three other parents, that the driver had become so verbally abusive on the return trip that children fled the bus at earlier stops.
