Staples Tuition Grants Initiates 70th Year with New Logo

Staples Tuition Grants (STG) begins its 70th year with a new logo.

The program which provides financial aid to Staples High School students at college developed the new logo with assistance from two Westport graphic artists, Miggs Burroughs and Ann Pawlick.

“Working from the hand-drawn artwork of the original logo by Michael Halbert, Miggs Burroughs modernized the iconic tree image, infusing it with greater meaning,” an announcement said.

It said Pawlick helped incorporate the new logo into the materials STG will use in all of its future fund-raising efforts. Pawlick is also hard at work updating and refreshing STG’s website so that it will have a fully rejuvenated look for its 70th year, the announcement said.

STG began in 1943 with a $100 donation from the Staples High School PTA. Last year, it awarded $314,000 in financial need grants to 30 members of the school’s 2012 class and 81 Staples alumni currently attending colleges and trade schools around the country.

In late October, letters soliciting donations reached Westporters. Tax-deductible contributions may be made online at http://www.staplestuitiongrants.org or sent to Staples Tuition Grants, PO Box 5159, Westport, CT 06881-5159.

Congratulations to Staples Tuition Grants on 70 years of serving the Westport community. I’m pleased to be recognized for my contribution to this outstanding team. However, I’d like to ensure that Miggs Burroughs receives full credit for the design of the new STG logo.
