WestportNow Teardown of the Day: 1 Red Coat Lane - Part II
![]()
An application for a permit to demolish the circa 1900 detached garage and apartment (also referred to in the application “a cabin and car port”) at Westport’s 1 Red Coat Road, near Merritt Parkway Exit 41, is in process. This is the second stage of the demolition plans. In the first stage, the colonial-style circa 1900 house that shared the one-acre property was demolished in February (see WestportNow Feb. 1, 2012) having changed ownership in March 2007 for $585,000. That house originally appeared as the WestportNow Teardown of the Day on Oct. 18, 2007. However, demolition was delayed for several years. Because the structure is over 50 years old, the application will be reviewed by the Historic District Commission. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
