A routine check of fishing licenses off Frost Point in Westport on Friday netted the arrest of a federal fugitive from justice currently being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond, police said today.
According to Police Capt. Vincent Penna, Oneil Cherrington, 35, of 11 Prospect Ave., Mount Vernon, N.Y. was taken into custody after a computer search via the National Crime Information Center showed an active warrant from the U.S. Marshal’s Office with full extradition.
Penna said that he was not privy to the crime or crimes for which Cherrington was wanted.
He added that the Police Department’s Marine Division routinely checks licenses for those fishing off town beaches and shorelines.
