Westport police today arrested three suspects in connection with what they said was a fraudulent check writing scheme.
Police responded to First County Bank, 1260 Post Road East, at about 4 p.m. on a report of a suspicious person possibly trying to cash fraudulent checks, said Lt. Ryan Paulsson, shift commander.
While responding to the call, the officers were advised that several suspects had left the area in a vehicle, he said. A description of the vehicle was obtained, and officers stopped it in the area of Post Road East and Maple Avenue.
An investigation by Westport police officers and detectives resulted in numerous fraudulent checks being discovered, Paulsson said. Three suspects were arrested.
