UPDATE Torrential rains tonight caused flash flooding on several Westport roads, stranding drivers in their cars.
Two cars were stuck in flood waters under the Metro-North overpass on Compo Road South as police rushed to shut down the roadway.
Another car was stranded in flood waters on Myrtle Avenue near Post Road East and one in the area of 169 Imperial Ave, police said. Flooding was also reported at Main and Canal.
The weather station at Westport Fire Headquarters measured 2.72 inches of rain during the storm, most of it coming in little more than an hour beginning shortly before 7 p.m. By 8:15 p.m., the rain had all but stopped and water on the flooded roadways began to recede. But by 9 p.m., it was raining again but not as heavily.
